SRI YATHIRAJA RAMANUJA TRUST We would like to give an update of earlier communication regarding "SRI RAMANUJA SAMSKRITI BHAVANAM" (Samudaya Bhavan) at Malleshwaram, Bangalore, India. As you recall, we raised a loan of Rs.30 lakhs from Punjab National Bank during 1996-97 at interest of 18.5%. An additional Rs.35 lakhs were collected through donations. We had to further borrow about Rs. 25 Lakhs from supporters at an interest of 15% to make the Kalyana Mantap operational by 1999 April. The rental revenues from Kalyana Mantap have not been adequate in the first 2 years. Occupancy was only about 50 days each year as a large number of new Mantaps came up during this period. 2250sq.ft of office space above the Kalyana Mantap, though ready, could not be rented either as office rental space was available in abundance. The net revenues were not adequate even to pay interest on the loans. In order to avoid legal action fr from the bank, a few of the Trustees and other supporters (RAK, MAN, MKT, MTS, MCV, MKS, MNK, RMP, MBV, RA, Susheela, MTR & MRK) have given loans totaling to Rs.17 Lakhs for which no interest has been paid for the last 2-3 years. Due to this, the bank loan of Rs. 30 lakhs at 18.5 % interest has been reduced to Rs.9 lakhs. The total loan at present is Rs. 55 Lakhs. So far we have spent about Rs.97 Lakhs for the building & Rs.5 Lakhs on amenities. The trust has paid interest of about Rs.26 lakhs out of which Rs. 19 Lakhs is to the bank & 7 Lakhs to others. In addition to the Kalyana Mantap (basement, ground & mezzanine floors) and 1st floor office space, the front portion of the 2nd floor consisting of staircase, elevator room & 300 sq.ft. of office space, is also completed. Further completion of the Second Floor has been deferred for want of funds. We have to provide elevator (lift) & electrical power supply to 1st & 2nd floors at a cost of about Rs.10 lakhs, in order to secure tenants. In addition to the above, it is necessary to reduce the interest burden & clear the high interest bank loan as soon as possible. Clearing the high interest loan balance will require about Rs.10 Lakhs. The revenue at present hardly suffice paying taxes, running the Kalyana Mantap and paying interest on loans. Needless to say, there is no surplus available for repaying the loan balance. We are confident that the situation will improve in the coming years due to the fact that public is aware of the facilities. To wit, the Mantap has been rented for 62 days during the current year and there have been many enquiries for office accommodation. Our Kalyana Mantap is as good as any other Mantap in Malleswaram and has all facilities and the charges are cheaper than other. We request all of you to kindly support us by using the Mantap for performing the marriages, upanayams and other functions in your family and also persuade your friends and relatives to use our Mantap, which will help us in augmenting the revenues. We are requesting you to contribute liberally by way of donation (for which Income Tax exemption is available) and or interest deferred loans / cumulative deposits on which double the amount would be repaid at the end of 7 years. To meet this commitment we will create a reserve fund out of the surplus generated from the above measures. The Thirunakshatram of Sri. RAMANUJACHARYAR, was celebrated at the Mutt on 28.04.2001, with "MANTAPPADI" OF Lord Venu Gopalakrishna Swami at the Mutt in the evening. A large number of Devotees participated.
The Thirunakshatram of Sri. MANAVALA MAMUNI JEEYAR was celebrated on 22.10.2001. The Thirunakshatrams of all the Yathiraja Jeeyars’ were celebrated on the respective days with Goshti Sevakalam and Theertha Prasadam followed by Tadiyaradhanam on all days. During the balance period of the current SRI VRUSHA SAMVATSARAM the following two Thirunakshatrams will be celebrated at the Mutt. SRI ASURI ANANDALWAR JEEYAR SWAMIGAL SRI AYYANAIENGAR JEEYAR SWAMIGAL All the devotees are requested to participate in the functions and obtain the BLESSING of ACHARYAS. The Centenary Celebrations of His Holiness SRI SRI YADUGIRI YATHIRAJA NARAYANA RAMANUJA JEEYAR SWAMIGAL (Sri Ramanujamuni Jeeyar Swamy) were celebrated both at Melkote and Bangalore from 13th to 15th July 2001 by Sri Yadugiri Yathiraja Mutt in association with Sri. Ramanujamuni Family. At Bangalore the celebrations were inaugurated on Friday 13th July 2001 evening by His Holiness SRI SRI RANGAPRIYA MAHADESIKA SWAMIGAL at SRI RAMANUJA SAMSKRUTHI BHAVANAM followed by Music Programme ‘Veena’ by Vidushi M.K.Saraswathi. "TIRUVOIMOZHI SEVA" commenced from 14th Morning at Sri. Yadugiri Yathiraja Mutt. There Was music programme by Vidwan M.T.Shelvanarayana followed by " Naada Namanam" – Goshti Gayanam. The Celebrations concluded on 15th July Morning with SHATUMARAI THEERTHAM an TADIYARADHANAM which were largely attended. The celebrations at Melkote commenced with TIRUVOIMOZHI THODAKKAM on 13th Evening. The Programme on 14th Saturday consisted of Public Procession in the Morning followed by Upanyasams by U.Ve.Vid E.S.Bhuvarahacharya, U.Ve. Vid Mudumbe Narasimhacharya and U.Ve.Vid Veeraraghavacharya. Prizes were distributed to the winners of DIVYAPRABHANDAM and GEETHA COMPETITION A souvenir brought out for the occasion "MUNISMRUTHI-1001" was released on 15th July 2001. The celebrations concluded with SHATUMARAI THEERTHAM and TADIYARADHANAM. A large number of disciples and devotees participated in all the celebrations. "NAVARATHRI UTSAVAM" was celebrated at the Mutt from 17th October 2001 to 26th October 2001 with " SRI RAMAYANA PARAYANAM" & VEDA PARAYANAM in the Mornings and DIVYAPRABHANDA PARAYANAM in the Evenings. LAKSHARCHANA to the LORD was performed on 25th October 2001. On 26th October 2001- VIJAYADASAMI- the celebrations commenced with SRI RAMAPATTABHISHEKAM. SUDHARSANA HOMAM was performed in the RAMANUJA SAMSKRUTHI BHAVANAM. After Sathumarai and Theertham TADIYARADHANAM was held. A large number of devotees participated in the celebrations. DIVYAPRABHANDHOTSAVAM and SAHASRA DEEPOTSAVAM (24 hrs Non-stop chanting of 4000 verses of Alwars- Nalayira Divya prabhandam) was held at SRI YADUGIRI YATHIRAJA MUTT, Bangalore in association with SUDARASANA SRIMAN S. VENKATESHA IYENGAR. The celebrations commenced on 29.11.2001 at 4.30 PM and concluded in the evening of the auspicious day of "TIRUMANGAI ALWAR" Thirunakashtharam and Kaartika Poornima. Eminent NALAYIRA ADHYAPAKAS from Divya Desams participated in the UTSAVAM and led the Goshti in which all devotees including ANDAL GOSHTI participated. SAHASRA DEEPOTSAVAM – Lighting of Deepams was held in the evenings of 29th and 30th November 2001. A large number of devotees participated. DHANURMASA POOJAS were held at the Mutt from 16.12.2001 to 13.01.2002 commencing with NITHYANUSANDHANAM at 7.30 AM and conclude with SATHUMARAI, THEERTHAPRASADAM by 8.30 AM everyday. The Managing Committee of the Mutt are grateful to all the Shisyas and Abhimanees for their support in the activities of the Mutt and request all the devotees to participate in large numbers in all the celebrations that follows.
SRI YAHTIRAJA RAMANUJA TRUST (Regd) PATRON: H.H.SRI YATHIRAJA RAMANUJA JEEYAR Yathiraja Mutt Building, No.199, II Main Road, (Sampige Road), Malleswaram,Bangalore-560003 E-mail:mtsrini@excite.com Dt.Aug.19,2001 Phone: (080) 3462107; Fax : (080) 6612143 As you are aware, the aspiration of all of us to have a building of our own to carry on the cultural, religious and social activities has been fulfilled with “ Sri Ramanuja Samskruthi Bhavanam” at Sri Yadugiri Yathiraja Mutt compound in Sampige Road, Malleswaram, Bangalore becoming functional. The Kalyana Mantap portion consisting of Basement floor, Ground floor and Mezzanine floor is completed since more than a year. Out of the top two floors, which are initially proposed to be rented out for offices etc., one floor is completed except for some finishing work which are in progress and construction of about 25% of the top most floor is finished. In view of paucity of funds, further work on the topmost floor is stopped for the present and will be taken up when finances are available. We took a loan of Rs.30 Lakhs from Punjab National Bank during 1996-97 f or which interest is being paid at 18.5%. In addition we have borrowed from the public Rs.25 Lakhs at 15% Interest. We have so for paid a total interest of about Rs.20 Lakhs, Rs.16 Lakhs to Punjab National Bank and Rs.4 Lakhs to others. We still have to pay the Bank Rs.22 Lakhs and 25 Lakhs to others to clear the loan account. We have not been able to generate funds from the building as per earlier projections due to the following reasons: 1. The occupancy of the Kalyan Mantap for Mariages etc., has been only about 50 days during 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 as against the anticipated minimum of 100 days a year. This is mainly due to coming up of number of Kalyana Mantaps in Bangalore, on account of which the occupancy in most of the Kalyana Mantapams have come down. 2. The first floor of the building, though ready for occupation, is not fully taken on rent. Only 1,500 Square feet is taken and another 2,250 Square feet is still vacant. In view of the above there has been a shortfall in revenues to the extent of 7 to 8 Lakhs per year and consequently we have not been able to payback the loan instalments to the banks and others. We have been negotiating with the Bank for extending the repayment period and refinancing. We have so for spent about Rs.85 Lakhs on the building and amenties for the Kalyana Mantap apart from the interest of Rs. 20 Lakhs paid on loans. We immediately require about Rs. 15 Lakhs to meet our commitments Viz (a) to clear the pending bills (b) to pay deposit to Power Transmission Corporation to obtain Electrical Power for the first floor & (c) to provide an Elevator (lift). A further 20 Lakhs would be required to complete the top most floor, which can be taken up when finances are forth coming. We earnestly appeal to all of you to donate liberally to the Trust to enable completion of the project. The unique feature of this Matham is that Sri Ramanuja not only founded it but also presided over it. The present Jeeyar, known earlier as Sri Asuri Srinivasa Iyengar, is the 40th head of the Matham. He assumed office in 1981.
